Plan Commission and Zoning Board
The 2009 City of Oglesby Comprehensive Plan
On December 7, 2009, the Oglesby City Council approved the 2009 City of Oglesby Comprehensive Plan. This long-range plan, intended to guide growth and development within the community, is the result of months of research, meetings and discussions involving the Plan Commission, the business community, residents and North Central Illinois Council of Governments. It is a living document, meant to be revisited, reviewed and revised as necessary; as such your comments and suggestions are welcomed. Below is a series of Web Pages that will allow you to read the entire Comprehensive Plan. You may need a small program called Adobe PDF Reader to view these pages. Oglesby Plan Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals
These two Advisory Boards have been set up by Ordinance to make recommendations to City Council members on matters that involve direction and control of the growth and development of the City and to review items of conformance to city Ordinances.
The Plan Commission (Chapter 2.57 of the City Ordinances) consists of no more than eleven members which includes the Mayor, the Commissioner of Streets and Public Improvements, and nine citizens of the city appointed by the Mayor. The Plan Commission members serve staggered terms which allows for some continuity of experience.
The Plan Commission has the responsibility to prepare and recommend to the city council a comprehensive plan of public improvements, looking to the present and future development and growth of the city. The Commission will examine and report before any plans for public improvements are carried out.
The Commission also gives recommendations to the council on subdivision compliance to the Subdivision Ordinance (chapter 16.04), and reviews annexation and pre-annexation agreements for compliance to City Ordinances.
The Plan Commission also will review any special requests sent to it by the Council.
The Commission will meet on the second Thursday of the month on an “as needed” basis.
Zoning Board of Appeals
The Zoning Board of Appeals (Chapter 17.56) is responsible for ensuring orderly growth, protecting the integrity of various zoned districts, and allowing for “best use” of the properties in question.
The Board consists of seven members who are citizens of Oglesby and are appointed by the City Council.
Their main purpose is to review requests from the City Council on zoning issues including requests for variances from the Zoning Ordinances (Chapter 17), on zoning designations for other properties in the corporate limits, and other matters referred to by the Council.
The Board will meet on an “as needed” basis and report back to the Council with recommendations.
