A MEETING OF THE OGLESBY CITY COUNCIL WAS HELD ON MONDAY, APRIL 18, 2011, AT 7:00 P.M. IN THE COUNCIL CHAMBERS.

Oglesby “Think Tank” member Ken Ficek presented the council a report on the group’s efforts for the last four years, noting that the group hoped the next council would continue to support their efforts. (A copy of the report is attached.)

 

MOVED BY PORTER, SECONDED BY CAREY to grant permission to Oglesby residents Karen Fouth & Bonnie Claudnic to hold a tag day Saturday, June 4, for the Susan G. Komen Walk for a Cure. Commissioner Carey suggested that the city consider limiting the number of tag days in the future, perhaps only to Oglesby organizations. AYES:  CAREY, DANEKAS, PORTER, MAYOR FINLEY.  MOTION CARRIED.

 

MOVED BY DANEKAS, SECONDED BY PORTER to accept the 1 year Humana employee health insurance proposal by Suarez and Associates. AYES:  CAREY, DANEKAS, PORTER, MAYOR FINLEY.  MOTION CARRIED.

 

 

MOVED BY PORTER, SECONDED BY CAREY to adopt Ordinance No. 757-041811 which governs development in floodplains.  Attorney Brolley noted that the city was required to adopt this ordinance by June 1, 2011. AYES:  CAREY, DANEKAS, PORTER, MAYOR FINLEY.  MOTION CARRIED.

 

 

MOVED BY PORTER, SECONDED BY CAREY to accept the first quarter building permits report from Building Inspector Don Piscia. Two permits were issued for a total of $26,200. AYES:  CAREY, DANEKAS, PORTER, MAYOR FINLEY.  MOTION CARRIED.

 

MOVED BY CAREY, SECONDED BY PORTER to place on file the March Motor Fuel Tax report ($7,770.42). AYES:  CAREY, DANEKAS, PORTER, MAYOR FINLEY.  MOTION CARRIED.

 

MOVED BY DANEKAS, SECONDED BY PORTER to place on file the March 1% Municipal Sales Tax report ($25,683.18). AYES:  CAREY, DANEKAS, PORTER, MAYOR FINLEY.  MOTION CARRIED.

 

MOVED BY CAREY, SECONDED BY PORTER to accept the $120,000 Motor Fuel Tax resolution for the summer streets program. Engineer Andy Washelesky, with Advanced Engineering Associates, noted that the streets to be repaired will be selected later with the council’s input. AYES:  CAREY, DANEKAS, PORTER, MAYOR FINLEY.  MOTION CARRIED.

 

 

Mayor Finley opened the floor for public comments. 

·         Oglesby resident Greg Stein shared his proposal for development of the city’s lots in the downtown area. 

·         Greg Crabbe, 1060 S. Columbia, asked the council to look into a drainage problem near his home.

·          Shelley Cooke inquired about a parking situation in her neighborhood. Police Chief Jim Knoblauch said he would look into it.

 

COMMISSIONER/MAYOR REPORTS:

·         Commissioner Carey reported that chipping will begin May 9 and appliance pickup begins May 2.  He asked that residents have items on the berm by 6 a.m. Monday to ensure pickup.  He also noted that the water tower should go online sometime in early May.

·         Mayor Finley announced a meeting with residents interested in McPhedren Park will be held Thursday, April 28 at 6:30 p.m. at city hall.  Summer rec signups will be held Saturday, May 7 from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Dickinson House.
