A MEETING OF THE OGLESBY CITY COUNCIL WAS HELD ON MONDAY, AUGUST 17, 2015, AT CITY HALL. THE MEETING WAS CALLED TO ORDER AT 7:00 P.M.

PRESENT: COMMISSIONERS CAREY, PORTER, RIVARA, YBORRA, MAYOR FINLEY, ATTORNEY BROLLEY, AND CITY CLERK CLINARD.

There was no public comment on agenda items.

A MOTION WAS MADE PORTER, SECONDED BY CAREY to donate $500 to the Cruisin’ for a Cure car show which is held in Oglesby. This is a long-time event held at the Rootbeer Stand. AYES: CAREY, PORTER, RIVARA, YBORRA, FINLEY. MOTION CARRIED.

A MOTION WAS MADE BY PORTER, SECONDED BY RIVARA to grant permission to the IVCC women’s tennis team to hold a tag day August 22nd at the intersection of Walnut and Columbia Avenues. The group must provide signage indicating who is collecting funds. AYES: CAREY, PORTER, RIVARA, YBORRA, FINLEY. MOTION CARRIED.

A MOTION WAS MADE BY PORTER, SECONDED BY CAREY to grant permission to Holy Family School to hold a race on Saturday, Oct. 3, 2015, and for the city to provide police assistance. AYES: CAREY, PORTER, YBORRA, RIVARA, FINLEY. MOTION CARRIED.

A MOTION WAS MADE BY PORTER, SECONDED BY YBORRA to grant permission to the Illinois Valley Dolphins Swim Team to hold a tag day September 12th at the intersection of Walnut and Columbia Avenues. The group must provide signage indicating who is collecting funds. AYES: CAREY, PORTER, RIVARA, YBORRA, FINLEY. MOTION CARRIED.

The Mayor then opened the floor to public comments on any topic.

Wanda Lent thanked the council for its support of the Oglesby Municipal Band.

Tony Dennett asked about the work on Walnut Street. Commissioner Yborra updated the council on the progress, noting that most of the work would be completed by the end of the week.

Tom and Beth Milby addressed the council on the Jessen property, which is located next to their home. The Milbys told the council that they had tried to acquire the property from the county and that they had been told that the city had already purchased it. Mayor Finley said that the city had inquired about purchasing the property, but hadn’t acted on it after the grant had been frozen. The Mayor will have the city attorney check with the county. The Milbys told the council that it was important that the matter be resolved quickly as the auction ends the 21st of August.

Vern Seimers voiced his continued concern about the house at 355 E. Walnut. The home was destroyed in a fire earlier this year and Seimers was inquiring about its cleanup.

Commissioners’ & Mayor’s Reports:

Commissioner Rivara said that he was “dotting the i’s and crossing the t’s” on the annual audit and hoped to have something for the next meeting.

Mayor Finley announced that electrical inspector Mark Marincic had resigned. Finley named Burton Lavens as the new electrical inspector. Finley congratulated the two Oglesby Boys Baseball teams on going to state. Also, Mayor Finley stated that Central States tournament has ended and was a success for our area hotels and restaurants.
