Oglesby Parks and Recreation Summer Programs 2019
Applications for 2019 summer employment with the Oglesby Parks and Recreation Department and the Oglesby Municipal Pool are now available at the Oglesby City Clerk’s office and online on the Seasonal Employment Opportunities page.
Children not attending Oglesby Schools can attend camps at the rate of camp fee + $5 per camp/clinic.
Municipal Swimming Pool
Opens Saturday, June 8 – WEATHER PERMITTING
Located at 55 Pool Drive. The pool is scheduled to open for the 2019 season on Saturday, June 8. Hours of operation are every day from 11 – 6 pm. Daily admission to the pool is $2.00. Season passes are available on an individual or family basis. Individual passes are $60.00 ($1 per day). Family passes are family of 2 – $100.00, family of 3 – $130.00, family of 4 – $160.00, and family of 5 or more – $180.00. Passes are available at summer program registration days or at the City Clerk’s office after May 18. Call (815) 481-8688 starting June 8 for additional pool information.
Youth Tennis Lessons
June 10 – June 27
Learn the sport of a lifetime! Lessons begin on June 10th for boys and girls entering grades 1 – 8 and will be held at Courtyard Park. Lessons are Monday thru Thursday (with Friday as a rain date); times are: Beginners 9:00 am – 10:00 am, Intermediate 10:00 am – 11:00 am, and Advanced 11:00 am –12:00 noon. Please specify your child’s group on sign-up form. There is a $25.00 fee for lessons.
CATCH Kids Club
June 10 – 14
The program is led by University of Illinois Extension staff at the LaSalle Education Center and Community Teaching Kitchen. The class will run from 9:30 am – 11:30 am. CATCH Kids Club is for children ages 5-10 (30 participant maximum) and is FREE! It will focus on nutrition and exercise- cooking/making healthy snacks, trips to canal, park, etc. If you have questions or would like to sign-up, please call: 815-250-0372.
Introduction to FLIGHT!
June 10 – 12
The program is offered by the Deer Park Remote Control Flyers Club. The class will take place from 9:00 am – 10:30 am. Introduction to Flight is for children entering grades 5 – 8. (20 participant maximum) Cost is $20 and includes a T-shirt. Monday and Tuesday of the class will be held at the Dickenson House in Oglesby; the third day will take place at the Radio Controlled Flying Field, from 9:00 am – 11:00 am, located at Mathiessen State Park, the River Area entrance. Participants will explore air pressure, and through hands-on experimentation, will discover how the airplane flies. Using radio controlled airplanes, they will learn about the parts of the airplane, controlling the airplane, and flight simulation. Aircraft safety will be explained, and each student will fly a radio controlled airplanes.
Parents are encouraged to attend, especially the last class.
IL Junior Chefs
June 17 – 21
The program is led by University of Illinois Extension staff and teen teachers at the Dickinson House. The class will run from 1:30 pm –3:30 pm. The cooking school is for children ages 8 – 13 (30 participant maximum) and is FREE! Teen teachers from Illinois 4-H and staff members with the Illinois Nutrition Education Programs work together to provide a fun, engaging program that allows youth to learn about nutrition, try new healthful recipes, and gain new kitchen skills. New recipes will be prepared by the campers daily. Physical activity will also be practiced daily to promote an overall healthy lifestyle. Cops & Bobbers Fishing Tourney
Tentative date: June 22
The Oglesby Police Department will be hosting the 2nd Annual Cops & Bobbers Fishing Tournament on Saturday, June 22nd at McPhedran Park/Lake in Oglesby. The tournament is FREE for OGLESBY RESIDENTS ONLY! Children ages 4 -15 are welcome to sign up! Registration begins at 8:00 am, fishing from 9:00 am – 11:00 am, and a hot dog lunch at 11:00 am. Bring your own pole! Bait will be provided. Prizes go to the top 3 in each age group. (A limited number of loaner poles will be available.)

Open bowling with games and refreshments. Open to boys and girls entering grades K – 5. Camp will be held at the Dickinson House; K – 2nd grade from 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm and 3rd – 5th grade 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm. There is a $ 20.00 fee for the week.
Fundamentals Baseball Clinic
Open to boys entering grades 2 – 7. Held at Bottomley Diamond at Dickinson Field Complex. The clinic time is from 8:00 am – 12:00 pm. Fundamentals will be stressed. Participants will be broken up into groups based on age and work in stations. A simulated practice game will conclude the clinic. The fee is $20.00, which includes t-shirts and baseball giveaways. Rain date – June 30 – times may vary. Instructor – H.O.F. St. Bede Varsity Baseball Coach and team members.
Fun & Fitness Camp
July 8 – 12/July 22 – 26
Classes are held at Elk’s Shelter/Oglesby Pool for children entering grades K – 5 from 9:00 am – 2:00 pm. The cost of the program is $50.00 for (1) week, $90 for (2) weeks. The program includes art classes, indoor and outdoor games, and water safety and swimming. Children are expected to bring a sack lunch daily. Refreshments, snacks and camp T-shirt will be provided.
Cheers and Chants Cheer Camp
July 15 – 19
Girls entering grades K – 4. Students will learn and improve all the basics of cheerleading, including cheers, chants, motions, jumps, kick, and dance moves. Camp will be held at the Dickinson House; K – 2nd grade 9:00 am – 10:00 am, and 3rd – 4th grade 10:00 am – 11:00 am. There is a $20.00 fee for the camp. All participants will receive a t-shirt. (Times may vary depending on the number of participants.)
Volleyball Skills and Drills
July 15 – 19
The program is open to boys and girls entering grades 5th – 8th and will be held from 10:00 am – 11:30 am at Lincoln School. Fundamentals will be stressed. Cost of the program is $20.00. All campers receive a t-shirt.

Camp times for boys are: 4th – 6th grade 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm and 7th – 8th grade 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm. Basketball fundamentals will be stressed. Cost for the program is $20.00. All campers receive a t-shirt. (Times may vary depending on the number of participants.)
